  • Pull method: When a user uses his Aadhaar number to search his Digilocker account—if he has linked it with his Digi-account—the push manner refers to sharing the documents to his Digi-Account.

    If the user's Digi-account isn't connected to his Aadhaar number, he can share documents by URL link.

  • Documents uploaded: Scan copies of documents that the user has saved to his Digi-account, which are called uploaded documents.

How To Use Digilocker

For Residents


  • You must enter your cellphone number in the login section to log in.

  • You will receive an OTP (one-time password) on your mobile device.

  • Choose a username and password after entering the OTP in the required form. This is how your DigiLocker account gets created.

  • You can receive additional services by freely providing your UIDAI-issued Aadhaar number once your DigiLocker account has been properly created.

  • After completing the steps mentioned earlier, residents can access the URIs of e-documents that different issuers have submitted to the Digital Locker.

  • Additionally, residents can eSign and upload electronic documents to their digital locker.

Regarding Issuers

  • To obtain a distinct Issuer ID, an Issuer must register on the Digital Locker System.

  • After an ID has been assigned, the Issuer can use the repository service provider API to upload the documents in a common XML format to the specified repository.

  • A unique URI made up of the Issuer ID, Document Type, and Document ID will be assigned to each uploaded document to the repository. Using the resident's Aadhaar number, the document URI will be sent to their digital locker.

Regarding Requesters


  • Before using the onboard Digital Locker system, a Requester must first register with an access gateway.

  • Through an access gateway, a requester can safely get the documents from the repository by using document URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers).
